Building Skills and Strengthening Bonds: Underground Connections Hosts Two-Day Conference

Underground Connections recently hosted a two-day conference aimed at reinforcing industry expertise, discussing company policies, and investing in employee development.

Day One kicked off at our Eastville Office in Cape Charles, VA, where the team sat down for a two-hour meeting covering the new Company Handbook, Policies, and Procedures. The discussion also opened the floor for selecting four individuals to receive CDL driver training through Gilco Transport Services—an exciting opportunity for skill-building and career growth.

Once the groundwork was laid, the team moved outdoors for hands-on field training, diving into excavation work, drill techniques, and plow operations. The management team buried utilities with tracer wires, creating a mock job site for employees to practice using utility locators to verify marks and locate private lines. The day wrapped up with a cross-training session using our two smaller drills, ensuring everyone gained practical experience.

Day Two took the conference to Virginia Beach, where the team gathered at Topgolf to roll out our new online training platform in partnership with BuildWitt Training. This exciting initiative offers a customizable learning experience, covering tool descriptions, professional development, personal finance, health and fitness, and industry-specific knowledge.

To kick off the first 50-day training program, employees will have access to learning videos on effective communication, excavation techniques, utility locating, health and safety, and more—ensuring they are equipped with essential skills for daily operations.

After diving into discussions, the team enjoyed a catered lunch courtesy of Topgolf, followed by a few hours of golfing—a well-earned chance to unwind and strengthen team camaraderie. To wrap up the event, Premier Print Co provided custom summer tank tops for our team to enjoy over their four-day weekend.

Investing in growth, training, and teamwork is what drives Underground Connections forward, and this conference was a reflection of that commitment. Here’s to continuous learning and building an even stronger team!
